FAQ

  • What The Lock? is an escape room venue with multiple different experiences. It is a physical and mental adventure game where you will be inside a themed room for a designated amount of time while you and your team try to figure out how to escape the room or complete an adventure. The rooms may contain features such as clues, trap doors, and hidden items. Each room is themed and has a unique storyline that engages the players throughout their environment.

  • If in doubt or unsure, please email for a response before booking.

To be able to continually offer a quality product with our award-winning standards, and still allow smaller groups to play without affecting our bottom line, we have switched to minimum number of (3) participants, beginning April 1, 2024. If you want to book for only 2, you would be required to purchase the third ticket. Prices are per participant and do not include taxes and/or fees.

    $38.00

We cannot offer a refund for any reason if any codes are not applied before checkout. All promotions and codes must be entered before finalizing payment. If you are unsure how many will be in your group, booking for 3 reserves your private room; you can add on either through the confirmation email or by contacting us.

As stated on them, some wax-sealed tickets must be used by contacting us. Once a gift voucher ticket has expired (such as donation, raffle, or sale tickets), it is no longer usable.

After a ticket has been purchased— similar to concerts, sports events, or other entertainment—there are no price changes made to that ticket. There are NO refunds for overbooking a room, someone not showing up, or forgetting about a gift ticket, or a credit card being entered instead of a voucher code.

  • We ask that you arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to your scheduled ticket time in order to fill out all waivers, listen to our tips and safety speech, and keep all future bookings on their schedule. Much like other entertainment venues, the time slot you book is the time the hour experience is to begin. If you or any of your team members arrive late, we cannot guarantee a full game time. Please plan to be in our facility for 1.5-2 hours.

  • If you arrive after we have started the game (the time slot you have booked), we cannot allow you inside. This would disrupt the game for the other participating players and negatively affect the schedule for the rest of the shows. We will do the best we can to wait for late participants, but we must stay on schedule with other reservations that begin after your booking.

Much like theater, concerts, and other entertainment-style venues, we do not offer refunds or cancellations. The time slot you book is the time your experience is supposed to begin; please arrive 20 minutes early to sign in and go through the briefing process. To sign in before arrival, please copy this link into your browser:

    https://whatthelock197.escapegamesglobal.com/date.

When using this, please know what theme, date, and time you are playing. We cannot guarantee a full 60-minute play if teams arrive at or after game time. Please account for traffic, and map us out beforehand so there are no surprises. We do not offer refunds; if you need to reschedule, we request you contact us at least 24 hours before your reservation.

  • The quickest and easiest method is to use the online booking system. Bookings close two hours in advance of the scheduled time. If you are looking to play in this time frame, please call us at 920-717-0362 and leave a message or email us at escape@whatthelock.com to check on any available openings.

If you are in the neighborhood, you may also stop into the lobby to reserve and pay for your bookings, however, please be aware we are not always staffed in-store.

We do accept walk-ins if the facility is staffed and there are themes available. Reservations are highly recommended. As such, you are then guaranteed your theme, date, and time.

All rooms are to be paid for in advance.

  • Gift Tickets are available in increments of ticket admission, stop into our lobby and speak with one of our staff members to purchase one, or select that option on our booking site! Much like many other entertainment venues, this ticket is an admission to a theme and is not sold in dollar amounts. Some tickets may have an expiration date and will need to be used prior to that date. One admission costs $38.00.

Our gift tickets fall into the category for admission, and are according to code 12 CFR § 205.20, “other types of prepaid devices are excluded [from gift certificate expiry extension dates]:

    Telephone service cards.

    Loyalty and promotional cards.

Reloadable cards not marketed as “gift cards.”

Paper issued gift certificates for tickets, admission, spa, and coupons.”

  • We don’t intend our themes to frighten; What The Lock? is an escape game that is very different from a haunted house. You will enter the room with the rest of your team and be given a set amount of time to solve the puzzles inside. You’ll directly interact with many aspects of the environment—touching things, moving things, opening things, (possibly crawling through things), etc. There are no lines to follow or set paths to traverse, just a space full of clues, items, and puzzles. There may be elements of fright within some of our experiences and the storyline as to why you're in the room, but we wouldn’t classify this as a "scary" experience.

Without giving anything away, we will say that there will be no one in makeup jumping out at you without your knowledge beforehand. The currently available rooms DO NOT feature any live actors.

  • We have had ages from 5-93 play our themes. With that said, please keep in mind, an escape room is an experience where each individual will need to be able to comprehend and communicate the clues and details around them. While we have seen many 7, 8, and 9 years olds play, we ask if children are under 10 that you ask yourself if they will be attentive for the time frame, be able to communicate well about the items they are investigating and ideas they are having, and if they will be respectful of the items inside the theme (we do utilize fragile and antique items in the rooms and even paper is delicate).

A participating adult must be present in the room for children under 16. Anyone under 18 must have an adult sign them in. The admission cost is the same for everyone—everyone can find valuable items and offer helpful suggestions.

We’ve hosted many birthday experiences but do not have a separate area for birthday parties.

  • We take your safety very seriously, and you will never be locked in. All players will be monitored via audio and a CCTV system at all times while in the rooms.

  • We do offer Corporate Team Building services and are happy to have your employees come and benefit from the experience. Not only will it be unparalleled concerning adrenaline-pumping fun, but it is also a valuable experience for team building with coworkers and an insightful observation of your team’s strengths.

Whether it be a Birthday, Bachelor/ette, Anniversary, or Wedding Party, we are certainly a fun-filled destination that provides a unique thrill you just can’t get anywhere else. Give us a call to book your private party today or contact us online. We even have patches for the Scouts to earn!

  • As enthusiasts ourselves, we want to make sure your experience is a special one. We have made every booking a private event so your experience is only shared with those you want.

When you book the room, it is only for your event. We will never pair you with strangers. You may see a tiered pricing for groups with fewer people in order for our business to allow smaller teams to play.

  • The minimum who can play is 2 participants; this is a teamwork activity but .would require the purchase of the 3rd ticket as the rooms have a 3 ticket minimum. With that said, the rooms are designed for around 6 participants. Escape games are not easy, and you will encounter challenging puzzles that require unique ideas and thoughts to solve. The time of an hour does not change whether there are 2 or 10 players. The more brains you have inside, the more chance to escape.

The games are always private no matter how many participants are involved. You may always book a minimum of 3 to reserve a room and bring more people in to pay in-store as long as the maximum participant size of that theme is not exceeded.

  • Yes! To our knowledge, we host the biggest variety of at-home escape gaming with over 200 titles of board games, card games, puzzles, and books. We also have apparel items such as t-shirts, hoodies, silicone wristbands, and necklaces as well as pens and patches (ask how Scouts earn these!). Come check out our lobby store or email us to ask about a catalog!

  • Each team will start with at least three clues to help you along your journey. We also have an Extra Clue Donation program where you can donate $2 per additional clue to help a nonprofit partner or organization in the community. This helps us all open our hearts to help those in need and (if needed) progress further in the room. Win-Win! Since the program’s installation in 2016, in partnership with you, we have been blessed to donate thousands of dollars to help community efforts.

Previously purchased an apparel item? Wear it in for an extra clue as well!

  • Fog machines commonly create haze by releasing glycol. Michigan Institute of Technology (MIT)’s music and theatre program materials note that in no way are fog fluids used today toxic, nor are they carcinogenic or induce asthma symptoms. It is also noted that unless you are within 3 feet of the largest fog machines on a Broadway stage, the glycol level released will not be markedly increased.

  • We believe in rescuing animals and providing them a safe and loving home; we have one right now who is in training. Please let us know if you would prefer us to keep the dogs behind other doors. The “comments” section on the booking site allows you to have a place for information you feel is important. Many people have said “make sure the dogs are there,” or tell us who's birthday it is, or share something fun and/or funny with us! Our staff loves to laugh too!
